Rafael Azcona has been described as the best screenwriter in the history of Spanish cinema
The man described as the best screenwriter in the history of Spanish cinema, Rafael Azcona, has died from lung cancer at the age of 81. His body was cremated on Tuesday following his death in the early hours of Monday.

Screenwriter for films such as El Verdugo, Belle Epoque, ¡Ay Carmela!, or La Lengua de las Mariposas, he has worked with all the top Spanish directors such as Fernando Trueba, José Luis Cuerda and Carlos Saura.

Born in Logroño on October 24, 1926, he moved to Madrid in 1951 to work on the satirical magazine, ‘La Cordoniz’. He started his career as a novelist and then moved to screenwriting, saying he found it easier than writing novels.
