Local residents say it is becoming increasingly dangerous on the paseo marítimo
Illegal road races are continuing on the paseo marítimo in Málaga, despite, the Público newspaper says, claims from City Hall that the problem no longer exists and is now under control. Speeds in the area are limited to 50 kph, and a number of videos posted on You Tube show that the races start at the Playa de la Misericordia, with the winning post at the last roundabout on the paseo.

Local residents have complained that the drivers involved may stop when local police arrive on the scene, but start the races again as soon as the officers leave. José Luis Urbano, President of the Sacaba residents’ association, described the situation is an accident waiting to happen, and said access to the urbanisation is particularly dangerous at weekends.

Málaga City Hall have announced plans to install a radar on the paseo marítimo to hopefully make the illegal road races a thing of the past.

Meanwhile YouTube has removed a series of videos showing racialist attacks on immigrants in Valencia, and the National Police have opened an investigation.
