The provincial government of Cádiz hope to recover the piece for the city if the table proves to be authentic
The Diputación de Cádiz have tracked down what they believe could be the table on which the historic Cádiz Constitution was signed in March 1812, published by the Cortes of Cádiz while the country was in the midst of the Spanish War of Independence. Diario de Cádiz reports it as a table made of Cuban mahogany which is owned by an arts foundation in Málaga province, the Fundación Arranz y Villa Padierna.

The Diputación provincial government has confirmed that they have commissioned an expert study on the table and, if it proves to be authentic, will negotiate the recovery of an object which played such a significant part in the history of not only Cádiz, but also of Spain.

Haha, it will cost them dear! What's the bet the Málaga Diputación won't get involved? If they do, Cádiz will have to take it to the courts, 'cos Málaga & Cádiz have a LONG "History" of collaboration (lack of, so to speak). The Málaga Diputación would love to be able to put on display such a fantastic Table, especially what with Málaga running for the 2016 Cultural Capital award.
