2003: José Couso, cameraman for Telecinco, and his colleague from Reuters, Taras Protsyuk, are killed when a US tank fires on the hotel in Baghdad where dozens of journalists are based, the Palestine Hotel.

Noted births in history include Felipe IV, who was born in Valladolid in 1605 and reigned for 44 years, one of the longest reigns in Spanish history.

The Málaga artist, Pablo Ruiz Picasso, died on this day at his home in Notre-Dame-de-Vie, Mougins, France, in 1973.
