The three kittens had been microchipped on March 31The Ecologist organisation
WWF/Adena has confirmed that three of the four Iberian Lynx kittens which were born a week ago in the
Doñana Nature Park have now died, it’s thought from hunger.
Adena spokesman
Luis Suárez explained that technicians from the Environment department of the
Junta de Andalucia had found the dead kittens which had been born to the female known as Wary, one of three females who have been breeding in the area known as Coto del Rey in the park, thanks to the bringing in of a macho from the Sierra Morena. The kittens were all micro-chipped on March 31 when their poor health was noted.
Suarez said it was incredible that the deaths had occurred given that the mother is one of the most controlled and watched animals in the world, and he said it indicated that incorrect decisions had been made by the Junta de Andalucía. If they don’t get it right, he said then the Iberian Lynx population is condemned to disappear in Doñana.
