It means that Maria Emilia Casas will stay on as President of the Court for now
A meeting of the Constitutional Court has rejected, by a majority vote of five to three, the appeal placed before it by the Partido Popular which challenged the so-called ‘organic law’ to reform the court.

The Partido Popular had wanted to see an item in the law which allowed for the automatic extension of the positions held by the President and Vice-President of the court. It means that María Emilia Casas will remain President until the next partial renovation of the chamber. The PP appeal against the law which gives the regional parliaments in Spain the chance to name four magistrates in the Court, as chosen by the Senate, was also rejected.

It means that the Constitutional Court can now get on and hear the cases placed before it, but it comes as meetings are expected to start next week as part of the new legislature to renew the chamber.
