Manuel Chaves invested for the sixth time as President of the Junta de Andalucía

The Socialist candidate was only supported by his own 56 deputies.
Manuel Chaves has been invested as the President of the Junta de Andalucía for the sixth time, and with the support of only the 56 Socialists. Both the right wing PP and left wing IU voted against his investiture, to which Chaves, who has an overall majority in the chamber, responded by saying it hardly showed their ‘firm willingness’ to take part in dialogue to reach agreements.

Despite that Chaves said he looked forward to a fruitful relationship with IU, even if they had commented that it was the Socialist’s ‘consumerist’ model which had led to the current financial crisis.

For the PP Javier Arenas said he accepted the offer of pacts from the Socialist leader even though he did not give him ‘the least credibility’.

Manuel Chaves promised during the investiture debate to meet the undertakings with which he had fought the election campaign in Andalucía, and said he would govern the next four years for all the residents of Andalucía.

He officially takes up his position on Saturday in a ceremony attended by several government ministers and other regional leaders and his new cabinet will take up their positions on Monday. Their names will be revealed shortly.
