smallerBy h.b. - Apr 17, 2008 - 8:24 PMIt's estimated that two million residents of Madrid have been affected by the series of stoppages. The basis of an agreement is reported to have been reached between the unions and the EMT bus company in Madrid to put an end to the current strike action which has been causing heartache for commuters in the capital. Despite this the CCOO union spokesman,
Alberto Blanco, said that the 24 hour stoppage planned for tomorrow stayed in place as the agreement has to be ratified by the workers tomorrow in two meetings planned for 1030 and 1730.
It’s understood the unions have accepted a deal which gives a wage rise that is between 0.8 and 1.1% higher than the rate of inflation. The unions are understood to have given a guarantee on absenteeism levels as part of the deal.
