Saint’s Day for José, Lucio, Santiago and León.
1529: the Treaty of Zaragoza is signed by Spain and Portugal, dividing lands in the Pacific between the two empires.

1855: a law is signed by Isabela II authorising construction of a network of radio telegraphic lines across the country.

Noted births on this day in history include Isabela I de Castilla, the Catholic Queen, in Madrigal de las Altas Torres, Ávila, in 1451.

The philosopher and essayist, María Zambrano, was born on this day in Vélez Málaga, Málaga province, in 1904.
