Joaquín Sánchez intends to be the first blind person to complete the Titan Desert challenge.

A blind ONCE lottery ticket seller from La Linea, Joaquín Sánchez, it to take part in a bicycle race across the Moroccan desert. The Titan Desert 2008 race gets underway this Saturday and continues until the following Thursday in five stages, starting in Ouarzazate.

Joaquín will be riding a tandem with his Catalan friend Sergio González. ‘Let’s say he is Luis Moya and I am Carlos Sainz’, he joked adding that if his friend makes a mistake they will both be in the sand. Joaquín said they got to know each other over the Internet, and Sergio is the only person crazy enough to go with him.

A blind person has attempted the Titan Desert race only once before, and he failed to finish, so Joaquín could well be the first.
