The blaze is expected to be declared to be officially under control later today.
A local resident of the Canary Island of La Gomera has been arrested in connection with the blaze which has affected more than 800 hectares of agricultural and low mountain land and which saw some 400 people being evacuated from their homes on Saturday.

An improvement in the climatic conditions today has helped fire-fighters, and the blaze is expected to be officially under control later today, with the last active front on the high ground of Hermigua.

The 53 year old arrested man is thought to have started the fire by mistake when burning off scrub on his land in Ibo Alfaro.
