The Catalans were beaten by a single goal from Paul Scholes in Old Trafford last night.
Manchester United 1 – Bacelona 0. The long distance goal from Scholes, after a defensive mistake, throws the Catalan side out of the Champions League, and means no silverware for the second consecutive season.

Barcelona managed to control most of the midfield play, but Ferdinand was particularly impressive in the United defence and they also proved very dangerous on the break.

A side the quality and reputation of Barcelona cannot go four games without scoring, especially at the end of the season and in such important games, and changes in management at the club are now on the cards. Best players on the night for the Catalan side were Messi and Deco, and Henry played well and had a couple of shots on goal blocked after coming on in the second half.

It means an English final to the Champions League. The final in Moscow will be Manchester United against the winner between Chelsea and Liverpool.

The most repeated comment in the Spanish sports press this morning – A new cycle begins at Barça.
