• Villagers take the law into their own hands in rural Spain - Mar 17, 2008 - 8:22 AM
Two thieves tried to escape from a traffic control which they came across after carrying out a robbery.
Four Guardia Civil have been run over at a traffic control in Torrevieja as they tried to stop a car. None of the men were seriously hurt. It happened early yesterday morning, at about 4am.
It appears that the two men in the car came across the Guardia Civil traffic control by chance after carrying out a robbery in a local urbanisation. When asked to pull to one side they at first did so before speeding off, hitting four civil guards in the process. One of them fired at the car, hitting the young Russian driver in the arm, who then decided to stop. The passenger was a local Spaniard from Torrevieja.
The injured civil guards and the Russian were taken to the Torrevieja hospital and the two arrested men were later transferred to the local Civil Guard barracks. They are expected to appear in court today. A spokesman said the two were common but violent criminals.
