Young chefs battle to advance Spanish cuisine

The seventh edition of the Zoco Young Chef's Competition has been won by Francisco José Vicente Hernández from Salamanca
Student chefs from across the country have been taking part in the seventh edition of the Zoco Young Chef’s Competition, which has the objective of renovating traditional Spanish cuisine.
The competitors have the brief of respecting the traditional Spanish dish, but adding a new touch in line with the latest gastronomic trends.

Ten of the top and up and coming names in the industry were competing in an attempt to impress the 11 member jury, chaired by chef Mario Sandoval.

This year the winner was a unanimous choice. Francisco José Vicente Hernández, from Salamanca comes from the Fonda Veracruz Hostelry School, and said that it was his mother’s recipe which led him to the prize. He wins 5,000 € and some work experience at the Coque Restaurant in Madrid, run by Mario Sandoval.
