Chema Gil was attacked in his car by a man wielding an iron bar.
The journalist who uncovered the corruption Murcia known as the Torre Pacheco affair, Chema Gil, is now under police protection after being attacked by a man wielding an iron bar on Monday.

It happened around 6,30pm in Los Alcázares when the journalist was in his car about to return home. As he was starting the vehicle, a well-built man appeared behind the vehicle armed with the large iron bar.

‘We have to kill you!’, shouted the man, as he hit the car with the bar, but the journalist managed to start the vehicle and escape. It follows a previous threat against the journalist which had been received by the EFE news agency’s Murcia office.

Meanwhile the Mayor of Torre Pacheco, Daniel García Madrid, and the municipal technical architect, Ramón Cabrera, were granted bail with charges on Tuesday. It came as the provincial court accepted defence appeals against the court in San Javier on April 3 which had refused bail.
