An interntational group of researches is trying to develop a vaccine.
Elche hospital is taking part in research to find a vaccine against a protein which causes Alzheimer disease. The neurological department of the hospital is taking part in an international study group which will start patient trials next month.

After years of research the group has established that Alzheimer is linked to two abnormal proteins, which lead to a chain of events which end up in the killing of neurones in specific areas of the brain, causing the condition.

Head of the unit in Elche, Jordi Alom, tells the paper Información that the clinical trials on a new vaccine will run for a year and a half in an attempt to neutralise the effects of the two abnormal proteins, and that the trials will initially be carried out on those suffering a mild form of the disease.
