The number is three fewer than for the same May day weekend last year.
There have been few delays on the roads of Spain as people headed back home on Sunday after the May Bank Holiday. Despite that the weekend had seen 39 lives lost, up to midnight last night, three fewer than last year at the same weekend.

Longest delays were seen on the A4 road into Madrid as people returned to the capital from Andalucía, and delays were also seen on the entrance roads to Barcelona where the AP7 motorway saw queues of 25kms last night south of the city.

8 of the fatalities were motorbike riders, and the worst accident was on Friday when four youngsters died in a head on crash between a car and a lorry.
