The Irish Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed it was aware of the deaths of the couple. The department has not yet released the names of the couple who died. The man, aged 46 and the woman aged 45, are from Co Kerry.
An Irish couple has been killed after being hit by a drunk driver when crossing the N-332 road at Orihuela Costa.
It happened at 0035am this morning at the 47.2 km point with the collision resulting in the death of the 46 year old man and 15 year old woman from Co Kerry, while the driver of the car escaped unhurt. No other vehicle was involved.
It is understood they had just arrived on holiday and went for a walk when they were hit by a car. As yet they have not been named.
The Guardia Civil say the driver tested positive for alcohol and spent last night in the cells and is expected to go before the judge in Orihuela today.
The accident happened at what is considered locally to be a black spot with bars open into the early hours on both sides of the road.
