Four young birds are being released in the area today as part of a new breeding program

The Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas Nature Park in Jaén has four new residents from today. Called Cazorla, Acebeas, Lézar and Castril, they are four Quebrantahuesos chicks which have been released on this International Birds Day.

Known in English as a Lammergeier or Bearded Vulture, it is one of the most endangered birds in Spain. Now the Junta de Andalucía wants to create a stable population of the species in the Cazorla Park which has not seen any of the birds since 1987.

Satellite technology will be used to track the progress of the new birds with poison and electrical cables considered the biggest threats to success.
