The immigrants arrived on two small patera boats overnight.
Members of the Maritime Service of the Guardia Civil have, in the early hours of this morning, intercepted a patera small boat containing 26 immigrants trying to reach Spain illegally.
All the travellers are male and from the Sub-Sahara area and inspections by the Red Cross on their arrival has shown all to be in good health.
It’s the second boat to be detected in the area by the new SIVE high tech detection system and was first spotted just after midnight when 12 miles to the SE of Motril. The boat was then intercepted by a coastguard vessel and the immigrants were escorted into Motril port where they arrived at 2am.
An earlier boat, just six hours previously was found to be carrying a further 36 travellers.
The total of 62 people are now under the control of the National Police and being held in the reception centre at Motril port ahead of repatriation.
