Speaking in her native Málaga, María Victoria Campos, thanks the Basque people for their strength and dignity.
The widow of the 41 year old Guardia Civil, Juan Manuel Piñuel, killed by an ETA bomb in Álava last week, María Victoria Campos, gave a statement to the press in a hotel in her native Málaga on Friday in which she launched a harsh attack on her husband’s killers.
Holding back the emotion, she made a dignified appearance a mere 24 hours after being given the ashes of her husband at the Málaga crematorium. Her voice broke as she spoke of her family, who were ‘immerse in a situation which had no explanation, which was beyond the limits of logic and human understanding’.
She thanked the ‘Pueblo Vasco’, using the phrase favoured by the Nationalists, for their strength, dignity and grandness, but she had harsh words for her husband’s killers.
‘You are nobody, only trash. A black mark on the cleanness of a grand country. I repudiate, from the very depths of my heart, these miserable cowards, who have no dignity or principles, who destroy life and the dreams of the people without scruples, who do not know how to respect a State of law, and who want to do away with democracy and who dirty the dignity of their homeland with their vile acts’.
She continued, ‘But know that it will not stay that way, as we will fight so this blemish of miserable assassins is done away with’.
María Victoria had words of thanks for the Prime Minister and other authorities, grand thanks to the Guardia Civil and special thoughts for the Minister for the Interior, Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba, as well as thanks for family and friends.
