The King greeted the public who had gathered in the port.

There were shouts of ¡Viva el Rey!, as King Juan Carlos took part in sailing in Alicante port over the weekend as Captain of the ‘Bribón XIV’. The City Trophy race is the first of six qualifiers for the Audi Med Cup and saw Don Juan Carlos set off from quay four of Alicante Port.

Also in the city for the sailing over the weekend were Javier Domínguez, the brother of Antonio Banderas, as the now trainer of Tottenham, Juande Ramos.
