Recent storms have however now completely destroyed the local cherry crop.
The recent rains in the province of Alicante have had a dramatic effect on the Beniarrés reservoir which is now full and may have to see its sluice gates opened.
Recent storms brought an average 50 litres per square metre and has resulted in an improvement in the water flow of the Segura.
In Júcar the reservoirs are also recovering and now hold 829 cubic hectometres, some 25% of total capacity.
The downside to the recent rains has been damage to the cherry crop which has been ruined across Alicante province. The local growers are considering requesting the area be declared a catastrophic zone, given that half the crop 800,000 kilos were ruined two weeks ago and the latest storm has ruined the rest.
Other crops and local livestock have benefitted from the rain however.
