The shortfall is estimated at 200, but the City Hall says it is looking at what can be dome to accept the children.
The increasing child population of Cartagena is proving a problem for the Town Hall. La Verdad reports this morning that as many as 200 local children have found themselves without any nursery places, even though three new nurseries are to be opened in September.
It comes as around 1,000 applications have been received for the 800 or so places in the town. Municipal authorities say that they will now study each case one by one, and try and find a way to admit all the children.
Meanwhile the public across Murcia are getting more and more frustrated by the process to inscribe new births on the region’s civil registry. Long delays are now a daily occurrence because of a lack of civil servants and other resources in the registry offices in Murcia.
