Despite the numbers, no cuts in water supply will be needed over the summer.

Despite the fact that the reservoirs which serve Málaga province are at their lowest level for 13 years, with just 181 cubic hectometres stored, there will be no cuts in water supply this summer, and it is thought that there will be no need to turn to local wells.

The amount of water stored has not been so small since the grand drought of 1995 when cuts in supply were needed, but Cuenca Mediterránea have said that despite the summer increase in demand along the Costa del Sol between June and September, no cuts are forecast.

Restrictions for farmers remain in force however in the Guadalhorce valley, and the Axarquía area has seen a particularly dry winter this year, with the largest reservoir of the province at La Viñuela currently at just 35% capacity, half the amount seen a year ago.
