The new plant will supply 24 cubic hectometres of water a year
The regional Valencia government has given the go-ahead for the Alicante II desalination plant. The new plant will have the very latest technology and will be able to produce 24 cubic hectometres of water every year, which will serve both Alicante and San Vicente.
Once in operation it means that the water from the Tajo-Segura transfer will no longer be needed in the area.
The new plant will be online in 2010.
