The Málaga Prosecutors' Office has published its report for crime levels in 2007.
The Málaga Prosecutors’ Office says it has detected a shift in crime on the Costa del Sol with a 13% increase on the Eastern Costa del Sol, and new crimes in the area carried out by the mafias which previously only acted on the western coast.
The number of criminal cases registered in the Málaga courts last year was up by 4%, a number described as ‘worrying’ and coming as a result of the high number of burglaries from homes.
Crime numbers were down slightly on the western coast, up 6.4% in Málaga city, but up spectacularly 13% on the eastern coast.
Increased numbers of domestic violence cases are also of great concern, and notice has been made again of the high number of cases of illegal building of homes in inland municipalities.
Meanwhile the emergency services in Málaga province have said that there has been a 30% increase in the number of injury cases they have attended to so far this year where a knife or gun was used. Since January the 061 emergency services have attended to 78 such cases.
