The meeting was held in the Moncloa Palace in Madrid and chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister, María Teresa Fernández de la Vega.
Central Government has accepted the proposals of the Drought Commission from the Segura valley, in efforts to reach a state pact on water.
Minister for the Environment and Rural Affairs, Elena Espinosa, held a meeting in the Moncloa Palace yesterday, also attended by the Deputy Prime Minister, María Teresa Fernández de la Vega, with the agricultural users of water in the Segura valley.
The Government remains against water transfers from the Ebro river, but has now left the door open to other transfers and the interconnection of water areas in an effort to reach a national agreement. Espinosa said that population changes would be met by new desalination plants and the greater use of recycled water.
Meanwhile the recent rains in Cataluña have resulted in reservoirs now reaching 50% capacity and the planned water transfer from Tarragona to Barcelona has now been cancelled.
