A Madrid court has ordered Marbella Town Hall to hand over the land for the payment of a debt.
The land which is home to the Virgen del Carmen cemetery in Marbella, located on the road to Ojén, is now owned by the Spanish Professional Football Society, SEFP.
It comes after a court in Madrid ordered the Marbella Town Hall to hand over the land to cover a debt of more than 554,200 €, and news of the sale was confirmed by the local Town Hall spokesman, Félix Romero. However he also said the Ayuntamiento was to appeal against the court ruling considering that the plot and cemetery are part of a public service and therefore cannot be embargoed.
20minutos reports that the payment is for a debt which was established during the Jesús Gil y Gil era in the town and linked to the so-called ‘caso camisetas’ when advertising for Marbella was placed on the players shirts in Atlético de Madrid.
