57 immigrants intercepted off the Almería coast

A total of four boats have arrived in the province over the past two days.
Spanish Coastguard has intercepted three patera small immigrant boats carrying a total of 46 travellers off the Almería coast.

The three boats were first detected yesterday off the Cabo de Gata just hours after 11 other male immigrants were rescued at sea from another boat, taking the total number of immigrants to arrive in Almería over the past two days to 57.

Coastguard sources say that most of the travellers are male, and all are reported to be in good health.

Meanwhile an Almería councillor has caused controversy by saying that immigrants and tourists ‘dirty’ the city. Esteban Rodríguez is the city councillor responsible for the environment and street cleaning services.
