The number relates to the last quarter of last year and the figures also show a reduction in the price of land.
Land sales in the towns of the province of Alicante have fallen by 80% in just one year according to the latest data from the Ministry for Housing. Only 29 deals were registered in the province in the last quarter of last year in Alicante, Elche, Benidorm, Torrevieja, Alcoy, Elda and Orihuela.

Meanwhile the square metre price of land was also down some 33% over the year to stand at 352.7 € on average, it’s lowest level for three and a half years.

The continuing climate of economic uncertainty and the greater demands from banks and savings banks at the hour of granting loans means the numbers are set to fall still further.

Who, with half a brain would risk buying land in this area? It's not just the downturn in the economy but the scandals that have engulfed Spanish property. I would love to buy some land there and have the means to do so, but wouldn't take what can only be a very risky gamble.
