Rabbits have been moving to live in areas close to the A92 motorway and local railway lines across Málaga province.
The Environment department of the regional government has started a plan to try to get 5,000 rabbits in Málaga province to return to their burrows in the campo.
It comes after the animals learnt where they were under threat from hunters and chose to move to areas close to the A92 motorway or local train lines.
Living away from their natural habitat they present a danger to car drivers and also are having a greater damaging effect on local farm crops.
The regional government says it is important for the rabbits to go back to where they should be, so that nature’s biodiversity can continue and they represent food for a whole series of larger predators.
So far around 1,000 animals have been caught and taken to rural areas of the province, such as Antequera, Humilladero or Casarabonela.
