The route of the AVE line in Cuevas del Almanzora and Nijar is in question.
The National Court has partially annulled a resolution approved by the Secretary of State for Infrastructure in January 2004, on the informative study for the AVE high speed train line between Almería and Murcia.
The part of the line under contention is around Cuevas del Almanzora and Nijar, with the court partially accepting an appeal from the Desert Springs company which contended that the approval of an informative study did not give the right to construction. They claim the public was not properly informed of modifications to the route of the line and that an environmental impact study was not carried out.
The court decision in effect means that the project for the line between Almería and Murcia is now halted.
