Among those now being questioned is the acting Mayor, Rafael Montesinos.
The acting Mayor of Estepona, Rafael Montesinos, has now himself been called to declare facing charges in the Astapa corruption case in the town, according to the Diario Sur newspaper which quotes municipal sources. Rafael Montesinos, from the Partido Andalucista, took up the post following the imprisonment without bail and resignation of the Socialist Antonio Barrientos.
Another 14 new people have now been charged in the case, including the municipal real estate coordinator Patricia Rojo, real estate manager Juan Manual Ramos, and other technicians, civil servants, businessmen, lawyers and some family members of others already detained.
After giving statements to the police these newly arrested people will later go before the judge instructing the case, Isabel Conejo, although when this will happen is unclear.
The investigation remains open and more arrests have not been ruled out.
