Jellyfish return to the Eastern Costa del Sol

There had been predictions that the jellyfish would remain offshore this year.
Red flags were flying on the La Malagueta beach in Málaga yesterday after hundreds of jelly fish came close to shore. The Red Cross reported that more than 100 bathers were stung over Saturday and Sunday on the beaches in Málaga and the eastern Costa del Sol.
The jellyfish have arrived despite forecasts of fewer numbers close to shore this year because of the recent rains in the area reducing the saline content of the water.
The jellyfish were not the only problem for bathers on the Costa del Sol yesterday. The rush home from the beach to watch the football led to a 14 km long hold up round Málaga from Torremolinos, 7km delays from Rincón de la Victoria to the Calderón tunnel and some 10 kms on the A45.
