Residents of Estepona want new local elections

Many residents think there should be a new Town Hall elected following the Astapa corruption case in the town.

The Platform of Residents Associations in Estepona has called a demonstration for July 18 in order to protest at the Astapa corruption case which has broken out in the town, and to demand that new local elections be held.

The platform is made up of 63 residents associations in Estepona and has asked the Government Sub-delegation in a letter for ‘the re-establishment of democratic values and the confidence in the public institutions following all that has happened in the Astapa case’.

They are also demanding the ‘immediate resignation’ of all the charged councillors and for the judicial procedures to be reinforced to ensure that justice is seen to be strictly done.

They want to see a new integrated viability plan for the council and say that simply increasing taxes is not the answer. They think that the politicians should see their wages reduced along with other costs in the council such as phone calls.
