José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero went with the Danish Prime Minister, Anders Fogh Rasmussen to the Middlegrunden wind farm.
Spanish Prime Minister, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, has been in Denmark today to learn some more about renewable energy sources. Zapatero had a manifesto promise to phase out the nuclear energy plants in Spain, except in exceptional circumstances, and there has been a debate following renewed interest in nuclear in other countries as a result of the crude price hike.

The Spanish leader has been inspecting the offshore wind farms in Denmark, the first of which are still to be built in Spain, and Zapatero has ratified his decision to go for renewable energy and not nuclear in the future. It comes as last year renewable energy sources in Spain overtook nuclear power for the first time.

Zapatero is also more than aware that Spain continues to be the country most distant from the objectives of the Kyoto protocol against climate change.

During today’s visit to see the Danish Prime Minister, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, and the Middelgrunden marine wind farm, Zapatero said his Industry Minister, Miguel Sebastián would be making a return visit there in the autumn.
