Antonio López is considered the father of the Madrid Hyper-realism school.
Painter Antonio López has become the living Spanish artist to raise the greatest sum of money for his work, with his painting of the Madrid skyline, ‘Madrid desde Torres Blancas’ reaching 1.38 million pounds, 1.74 million € in auction at Christie’s on Monday.

The work dates between 1976 and 1982 and was the last of the painter’s large works to go on sale. Despite the amount it reached some observers expected it to make more.

Antonio López is one of the most prolific Spanish painters and is considered to be the father of the Madrid Hyper-realism school. He was the recipient of the Prince of Asturias Prize for the Arts in 1985 and won the Velázquez Prize for Modern Arts in 2006.
