The visit by Miguel Angel Moratinos as part of the three-way talks, will be the first of a high ranking Spanish Government official to the Rock.

Spanish Foreign Minister, Miguel Angel Moratinos, has given an undertaking to visit Gibraltar. The Spanish Government is opting for dialogue, while at the same time not renouncing their demand for sovereignty of the Rock.

New areas of common interest are being established between the Madrid, London and Gibraltar and when the Moratinos visit takes place it will be the first official visit to the Rock by a top official from the Spanish Government.

It will take place at the third round of the three-way talks on the Rock, and this time will be held there at the express invitation of the Gibraltar First Minister, Peter Caruana. The meeting is expected within the year.

Among the subjects pending is the opening of the first offices of the Cervantes Institute in Gibraltar, and the joint fight against organised crime and illegal immigration.
