One in five new mothers in Spain is an immigrant.
The birth rate in Spain is at its highest since 1990 with the average number of children being born to mother up to 1.39.
However the increase is down to immigrant mothers who represent one in five of current mothers in Spain, led by the Moroccans.
The numbers come from the National Statistics Institute, INE, which says there were 491,183 births in Spain last year, 92,992 of which were to foreign mothers. The total was over 8,200 more than in 2006 despite the number of marriages falling slightly to 203,697.
The number of same sex marriages in Spain in 2007 was 3,250 or 1.6% of the total.
