The Spanish language and the Socialist policies dominate the papers today.

El Mundo continues with its campaign in defence of a common language – Castellano. The paper today says that 113,000 people have signed up to their petition.
The paper also claims today that the tourist industry has been affected ‘by the lack of respect for Spanish’. The paper says that the lack of co-official nature for Castellano in some regions damages the image of Spain as a destination, and causes difficulties for travellers.
ABC also leads with the claim and notes that the Circle of Businessmen thinks Spain will enter recession before next year.

El Mundo reports that 41 people have been killed in a suicide attack on the Indian embassy in Kabul. A car bomb driven by a suicide bomber the cause with 139 people also injured.
El País puts a photo of the bloody aftermath on its front page and says it was the worst attack in the Afghan capital since the fall of the Taliban.

El País reports that the rich countries of the world are reneging on their promises to help Africa. The G8 summit has refused to double their contribution to the continent or to fix time periods for amounts already promised.
La Vanguardia leads with the summit and says the G8 are facing the most serious food crisis ever seen.

El Mundo has a photo of José Blanco, Leire Pajín and José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and says that the Prime Minister has undertaken to reform the abortion law during this parliamentary legislature.
El País leads with the revelation that it was the Prime Minister himself who put a stop to a motion at the Socialist Party Congress last weekend to do away with official State funerals. The paper says that the proposals to change the abortion law will be ready in 2010 and that the law will ensure that the identity of the person undergoing the procedure will be kept confidential.

Público considers that many of Spain’s regions are overtaking the Government on the left. The paper notes that some of them have already developed policies which were announced by the Prime Minister at the Socialist Party Congress last weekend.
Andalucia is already preparing euthanasia legislation, those convicted of domestic violence cannot inherit in Cataluña, and all those without means in the Basque Country have the right to a subsistence allowance.

El País tells us that the Italian government has already fingerprinted some 600 gypsy residents of Naples and Milan. The government says its part of a ‘simple census’.

El Páis notes that 14 immigrants are missing, presumed drowned off the coast of Motril after their boat overturned.
ABC has a dramatic front page photo of one of the survivors. There were 23 who made it from the 37 on the boat.

The merger between the two low cost airlines, Vueling and Click Air is covered by most of the papers – El Mundo notes it will create the largest low cost operator in Spain.

And staying with the business, the Government is predicting that there will be a ‘friendly divorce’ for Endesa between Enel and Entrecanales.

El Mundo reports that the young gypsy woman who was kidnapped, tortured and raped for two months by her ex boy friend and his family as a punishment for her being unfaithful.

El País has an interview with Rafa Nadal who tells the paper that he has dreamed of Wimbledon for some time. He says that winning on grass has given him extra confidence.

And finally,
El Mundo tells us that members of the Barça board are to ask the chairman Joan Laporta to resign, after the motion of no confidence against him obtained 60% support, and despite it not being legally binding.
El Periodico de Catalunya says that he is looking for support on the board in an attempt to stay on.
