The three were accused of collaborating with a gang of drug traffickers.

Three members of the Guardia Civil who faced a possible prison sentence of 13 years in prison for allegedly collaborating with a hashish trafficking network have been released without charge by the Almeria Provincial Court because of a lack of evidence.
The judge Benito Gálvez considered that the accusations against the men were based only on ‘suspicions’.

The three are based in the Roquetas de Mar barracks, and the accusation dates back to between February and October 2001 when large amounts of hashish from Morocco was brought into the Almeria coastline.

The Prosecutor had claimed that tapped phone conversations between the head of the traffickers and the providers of the drugs indicated the collaboration of the Guardia Civil, and that heat seeking cameras showed that the agents were close to the beaches on the days when and where the drugs were planned to be brought ashore.

The leaders of the traffickers were two brothers from Marbella and a local from Motril, among others. They have been sentenced to two years three months in jail, and fined over two million €.
