A new report from Amnesty International claims that the new Domestic Violence legislation in Spain needs improvement.
More than 600,000 women were the victims of macho domestic violence in Spain last year, according to a new report from Amnesty International which claims that the Government’s new legislation is not working.
AI have called on the government to update the legislation which has now been in place for three years.
The AI report says that of the 600,000 women who suffered aggression at the hands of their partners, only 21% went on to place an official complaint.
Virginia Álvarez, responsible for internal police in Amnesty in Spain, said that quality health care, as part of an integrated response, with legal advice was still not in place for the victims. She illustrated the shortfalls of the system with some real case examples and lamented that police and health workers are often poorly trained in the area.
