Three thousand people turned out for the funeral on Saturday.
A 43 year old Murcia man, named with the initials J.P.V. stabbed to death his wife and their two children aged six and four, called the police, and then when they arrived, shot himself dead with a shotgun.

Police say the shotgun went off accidentally when they called on the man to hand himself into custody. They had fired a warning shot into the air, and this caused the man to press the trigger of the shotgun, taking his own life instantly.

It happened on Friday morning on the Las Teresas industrial estate, where the family was constructing a rural villa, 3kms from the town of Yecla. Reports indicate the family was in a financial crisis, but neighbours had not noticed any problems and there had been no complaints of domestic violence. The man was well-known locally as a hard worker.

Some 3,000 people attended the funeral for the family of four on Saturday in Yecla. The local Mayor was in attendance and declared three days of official mourning.

Tragic. The town has been rocked to the core with this.
My thoughts go out to all affected.
