The Socialist councillor was a harsh critic of the previous Mayor, Antonio Barrientos, who is now in prison on remand in the Astapa case.
Socialist councillor, David Valadez, has been elected as the new Mayor of Estepona. He was previously dismissed in the previous legislature, by the ex Mayor, Antonio Barrientos who is now in prison in the Astapa case, after he openly criticised the previous mayor’s real estate policies. He occupied the sixth place in the Socialists candidate list for the local elections in 2007.

The local party PES abstained in the vote yesterday and only the Partido Popular voted against. The PP continues to demand that the Town Hall be dissolved and new elections be called.

31 year old David Valadez is a qualified journalist, and has been working as the councillor for Social Welfare up to now. He told the press that his first task was to regenerate local politics and win back the credibility of the citizens.
