There were no serious injuries in the blasts which mark the start of the terrorists summer campaign.
An explosion outside a branch of Barclays Bank in Getxo, Vizcaya in the early hours of Sunday caused damage to both the bank and a nearby home, but no injuries.
The Ertzaintza Basque police are investigating the composition of the device which went off at 5am in Avenida Neguri in the town.
The entrance and cash dispenser of the bank were damaged by the explosion.
It was the first of five explosions set by the Basque Terrorist group ETA yesterday with four other small devices set along the Cantabrian coast and going off in Noja and Laredo.
It is part of what ETA calls its ‘summer campaign’ which it has tried to establish every summer to affect the tourism season in Spain. Phone calls gave warnings about the devices which had been placed on the beach and golf course.
One woman was hit by a stone from one explosion in Noja, and there was some material damage done in the blasts.
Interior Minister, Alfredo Pérez-Rubalcaba has said that he sees ‘tiredness’ among ETA prisoners, many of whom he says now understand that the armed struggle will not get them anywhere. Despite his observation and speaking at an event yesterday in Algeciras, he called for prudence in the face of the new summer campaign.
