Four immigrants rescued off Tarifa

The four were in a small patera boat which was spotted drifting six miles offshore.
A small patera boat which was adrift off the coast of Tarifa has been recovered with four young Moroccan immigrants who were attempting to reach the coast of Spain illegally. The authorities intervened when the boat was six miles offshore. It’s not yet known if the travellers were underage.
The coastguard was alerted at 7,45am on Monday morning by a boat which noted the patera adrift and called it in.
Meanwhile latest numbers of such immigrants to reach Spain this year is down on last year by some 500 or 7% over the first six months of the year. It comes as the Government has said it wants to work above all in areas of prevention, but it is the good weather which encourages many to take the risk.
