The Vizcaya commando are thought to have been the most active unit of the Basque terrorist group since the ending of the cease fire in 2006.
Great success overnight for the Spanish Guardia Civil who say they have broken up ETA Vizcaya command unit. This is the ETA group considered to have been the most active since the ending of the cease fire in 2006, and which is believed to have carried out the attacks on the Civil Guard barracks at Legutiano in Álava and in Calahorra in La Rioja, among others.

There have been eight arrests in the operation against the Basque Terrorists in several localities in Getxo and Elorrio.
Among the arrests is one man previously known and imprisoned for terrorist charges, Arkaitz Goikoetxea, who is thought to have been the leader of the group, and more arrests have not been ruled out. National Court judge, Baltasar Garzón, was personally present during his arrest.

Police reports indicate that the group has been under surveillance for the past two weeks.
