Discothèque to pay compensation to client after caustic soda was placed in water bottle
By h.b. - Aug 15, 2008 - 12:54 PM

A waiter had used the water bottle during cleaning and had left it on the bar of the establishment.

The Spanish Supreme Court has ordered a discothèque in Valladolid to pay 210,000 € in compensation to a customer who drunk caustic soda instead of water in February this year. The Caustic Soda was in a bottle which had a water label and the cap in place, and which had been left on the bar of the venue.

The money has to be paid by the owner and a waiter at the discothèque, with the latter admitting using the water bottle to hold the caustic soda as the venue was closing and being cleaned.
As a consequence the customer suffered serious injuries to her oesophagus and permanent scarring to her throat.
