The accident happened at the automatic doors of Elda Hospital.

The Valencia Health Service has been ordered to compensate a woman who fractured her hip in Elda Hospital 15,000 € compensation.

The 71 year old needed surgery and three months of rehabilitation after the accident which happened when the automatic door of the hospital closed as she was trying to enter.

The Consell Jurídic Consultiu (CJC) said that the regional government was responsible for the accident which happened on Valentine’s Day 2004. They heard that the automatic doors of the hospital only worked correctly when a person was walking at normal speed, but the victim was slower as she was walking with crutches.

She had called for 24,125 € in compensation but the final amount granted to her was 15,000 €.

Taylor - How do you figure that? Of all the places that ought to realise not everyone can walk at the same speed, a hospital should be top of the list! Have you tried getting through an automatic door on crutches?
